Giuliani clarified yesterday that the headache — formerly described by his campaign as “flu-like symptoms”, a mistaken claim for which he takes no responsibility — was not in fact cancer.
Why exactly is this newsworthy? Because either he’s still lying to us about what he thought was wrong when he turned the plane around, or because it gives us a little window into Rudy’s emotional state, and shows him to be pretty darn paranoid. In other words, either Rudy was worried that the headache was indicative of something other than cancer which he has yet to name and which we personally can’t imagine, or he decided “hey, my head hurts — maybe it’s a brain tumor!” (a suspicion some of us may occasionally entertain, but never act upon or admit). After deciding this, he thought he’d better turn the plane around fast and rush to the ER, because the tumor might explode in his head at any moment. Because that’s how tumors work.
